Allen Quentin Gratts, Jr. was born on March 7, 1967 and raised by Allen Quentin "Bill" Gratts and Camille Gratts. He passed from this life on February 8, 2026. A member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Allen lived a life rooted in faith, family, and basketball.
A 1985 graduate of Weatherford High School, he was a three-sport athlete in basketball, baseball, and track & field. He continued his basketball career at Weatherford College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Texas A&M University–Kingsville in 1989.
Allen devoted his life to coaching and mentoring young men. He served as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Paschal High School and Cleburne High School before becoming Head Boys Basketball Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Arlington Bowie High School. Over his distinguished career, he achieved 564 wins, served on the Texas High School Coaches Association Board.
Among his many accomplishments were coaching athletes who went on to achieve great success, including former #1 overall NBA draft pick and All-Star starter, Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons); Weber State’s all-time three-point leader, Jeremy Senglin (Washington Wizards); Houston/Texas Tech All-Defensive guard, Kyler Edwards (Oklahoma City Thunder); and future NFL player, DJ Campbell. He retired in June 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations.
Beyond the court, Allen was an avid golfer and enjoyed muscle cars and time with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Jessie Mae Gratts; and his special aunt, Helen Gratts Eldridge.
He is survived by his daughter, Kiona McCallister; special friends, Ricky Crawford, Johnny Sansom, Lee Ray, Donte Wilson, and Kelly Carruthers; and a host of family members, former players, fellow coaches, golf buddies, and friends whose lives were forever impacted by his leadership and mentorship.
A visitation service will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, located at 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
Mr. Gratt's funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at New River Fellowship, situated at 3252 Interstate 20 Frontage Rd, Hudson Oaks, Texas 76087.
A graveside service is set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Willow Springs Black Cemetery, in Willow Park, Texas.
