Warren Graves Milner

Warren Graves Milner went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday morning January 30th, 2022, at the age of 96.

Warren was born in Vernon, Texas on July 17th, 1925. His parents were Cleve and Alage Milner. He grew up in the Wildcat Community- north of Vernon, Texas. He attended Vernon school and enjoyed playing football at Vernon High.

Warren served in World War II. In 1944 he was drafted into the army. He trained at Fort Hood and was sent to England. After D-Day, he crossed the English Channel to Omaha Beach. The next day, he was flown to Italy. In Italy, he was assigned to the 34th Division, aka “Red Bull. He participated in the battles of North Appenines, PoVally, Rhineland and Go 105 WD 45 as well as many other intensive combat encounters. He served as squad leader 745 and earned a combat infantryman badge and became a staff sergeant. Warren came home from the war and was discharged at Fort Sam Houston on February 16, 1946. After arriving back home in Vernon, he attended Baylor University on a football scholarship and became a proud Baylor Bear. He graduated from Baylor in 1949. He worked for Chubb Insurance Company in the Loss Control Department for over 35 years. He met Virginia Smith at the First Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. They married on February 2nd, 1957, at Bethesda Methodist Church in Garner, Texas. After living in Mesquite Texas, and having 3 boys, they moved to the hill country in Comfort, Texas in 1972. After retirement, Warren and Virginia enjoyed traveling and were able to visit all 50 states. He enjoyed spending time with his fellow World War II buddies aka “Red Shirt Veterans” and his annual trips to the 34th Division reunions in Iowa. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spoiling them. Warren was a member of the Gaddis United Methodist Church, VFW Post 8569 in Comfort, Texas and a life member of the 34th Division Association. 

Warren is survived by his wife Virginia of 64 years (3 days shy of their 65 anniversary), three sons Richard, Greg and wife Paula, Robert and wife Angie. He has four grandchildren: Alysia Milner, Shelby and husband Sawyer Juvette, Michael Milner, Zach and wife Loren Milner, and 2 great grandsons Stryker and Stetson Juvette. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Cleve and Alage Milner and his brother Cleve Milner.

Funeral Services will be held at Bethesda United Methodist Church (6657 North FM 113 Weatherford, Texas 76088) at 2pm on Sunday, February 6th.
