Walter B. Fife

January 22, 1914 — March 4, 2008

Walter B. Fife, 94, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008.  Walter was born on January 22, 1914 in Weatherford, Texas.  He and his late wife, Bertie L. Phillips Fife, were both from second generation Parker County families.  They married in 1947 and made their home in Parker County, where they raised their children and were active members of the Hillcrest Church of Christ.  While he retired as a local dairyman/farmer, he never ceased being the head of the family or to being a living example of honor, commitment, and integrity to others.  He was a humble man who lived every day of his life with sprit, style and substance; always with a thankful heart.   Walter served our country for over 5 years during WWII.  He volunteered to serve in the US Army and was in both the European and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters of the War.   He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie L. Phillips Fife, his parents, a brother, 2 sisters, 2 cousins who were like brothers – Claude Freeman and Ernest Blackerby; several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.   SURVIORS – 2 Sons: Gary Walter Fife and Larry D. Fife.     6 Daughters: Barbara Ann Fife; Betty K. Burkhart; Ruth E. Swancy and husband Craig; B. Lynn Fife; Ruby L. Thornhill and husband Carl; and Rhonda D. Fife.   7 Grandchildren: Stephanie Ridel; Richard Thornhill; Taylor Ann Elrod; Tiffany LeAnn Wade; Christopher Swancy; Matthew Swancy; and Kimbell Elizabeth Burkhart.   4 Great Grandchildren: Kenlee; Karyle; Emma; and Blaine.    Sister:  Minnie Lou Phillips;   Sister/Brother-in-laws:  Jean Wood; Robert and Dorotha Phillips; Ray and Marie Phillips and Roger and Judy Phillips.  Numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Funeral:  2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008 at Hillcrest Church of Christ.  Visitation:  6 to 8 p.m. at Galbreaith & Pickard Funeral Home.
