W.L. "Shorty" Hawkins

October 14, 1918 — July 15, 2006

W.L. “Shorty” Hawkins, 87, of Weatherford died Saturday, July 15, 2006 at his residence. Born October 14, 1918 in Seymour, Texas, he was a resident of Weatherford for many years. Shorty was retired owner of Hawkins House Moving, a Veteran of the Army Air Force, the past Commander of the American Legion and a member of the VFW. He loved his family and his grandchildren. Shorty was preceded in death by his wife Frances Hawkins, two sons Jim and Leroy Hawkins and a grandson Thomas David Hawkins. He is survived by his   daughters, Kay Hightower of Weatherford, Cheryl “Susie” Bailey and husband David of Weatherford and Karen Bailey and husband Harvey of Weatherford; son, Winston “Winky” Hawkins and wife Shirley of Weatherford; sister, Dorothy Hitt and husband Gordon of Ardmore, OK; special friend and companion, Yvonne “Little Red” Vernon of Weatherford; 33 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren       Funeral service: 10:00 AM, Tuesday July 18, 2006 in the North Side Baptist Church with Rev. Sonny Buckingham officiating. Interment: East Greenwood Cemetery.
