Virginia Ann Petrey

Virginia Ann Rodgers Petrey was born in Monahans, Texas on August 25th, 1941, to James and Lola Rodgers. She was saved as a young child in Bible school at Olin Baptist Church. Virginia was Vice-President of her Hamilton High School class and graduated salutatorian in 1959. She met the love of her life in high school and they were married August 30th, 1959. She and Clint built a home and moved to Dennis in 1968 where she became the postmaster at Dennis and served for 30 years. Virginia played the piano and organ at church for 55 years among other things like teaching kids’ classes and helping in Bible school. She planned and carried out church Valentine banquets that folks from other churches even came to. She was the mom who hosted all the youth parties when her kids were at home. Virginia was a hard worker helping Clint in the fields and on the tractor cutting and baling hay. She had 15 pet goats for a period of time that were her “babies” and delight! Virginia was a giver and a caring person always wanting to help others and always inviting them to church. She loved her grandchildren and even had gifts in her closet to send on each month to the great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 siblings and 2 infant sons. Virginia is survived by her husband, Clinton Petrey, of the home; son, Joe Petrey of Tolar, Texas; daughter and husband, Karen and Mike Fanning of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; 5 grown grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She passed away in her home on Friday, August 11, 2023.

Visitation is 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 14, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Dennis, in Dennis, Texas.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Dennis, with a private burial at Johnson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace House Ministries, 919 Eureka St, Weatherford, TX 76086; (817) 599-9080.
