Vernon D. Measures, 82, of Weatherford, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, in a local nursing facility. Born March 8, 1925, in Peaster, Texas, a resident of Parker County for many years, Vernon was an Army Veteran serving in Japan during WWII, a retired employee of Brazos Electric Power Plant, and a rancher for Headrick Ranches. He was a member of South Main Church of Christ where he was a former Deacon. Vernon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and devoted neighbor and friend to all who knew him.
His first wife, LaMarylis; parents, Lec and Edith Measures; granddaughter, Lori McReynolds; and brother, C.L. Measures preceded him in death.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Sue Measures of Weatherford; daughters, Judy McReynolds and husband Fred of Weatherford, Marilyn Dobbs and husband, Jack of Weatherford, and Sherry Knight and husband, Leslie of Weatherford; sons, Dale Measures of Weatherford and Dale Buchanan and wife, Brianna of Princeton, Texas; grandchildren, Tommie McReynolds, Justin Dobbs and wife, Shannon, Kimberley Dobbs, Ryan Knight, Nicholas Knight, Krystyn Buchanan, Jordan Buchanan, Preston Orr, Bryson Buchanan, and Brenna Buchanan; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at South Main Church of Christ, with Minister Murphy Phillips officiating. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Weatherford Christian School or the Benevolence Fund at South Main Church of Christ.
