Sgt. First Class Tommy Lee Loudres was born October 4, 1938 to Carla Lee and Thomas Loudres. He went to school at Carter Elementary then to T. M. Terrell High School. He sang tenor in a singing group called the Ivory Jones. During this time Tommy had the opportunity to go solo but refused because he did not want to leave the group. Tommy came to Weatherford and met Evelyn at Mr. JL George’s Upholstery Shop. He met her on June 11th, 1960 and they were married August 6, 1960.
During a performance by the Mid Nighters at the North Side Coliseum, the group tenor became ill, Tommy was able to fill that spot and sing with them that night. Tommy was a chef at the Live Oak Country Club and also worked as a chef at the Rodeo in Weatherford and the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, along with other duties.
In 1974, Tommy joined the National Guard and took training at Fort Ord, California. He trained at camp for two weeks during each summer afterwards. In 1990-1992 Tommy was in Desert Shield/Desert Storm from November ‘90 to March ’92. During one of those years he had the opportunity to be an honor guard for Kay Bailey Hutchins. He was excited about that night and so was I. Tommy taught classes at 41598 USA R School in Fort Worth. He was a lifetime member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Tommy worked at IHOP in Fort Worth Owen Martin Henn.
After working the stock show this year, Tommy said, “Evelynn I’m tired”, so I fixed food and coffee for him. On Monday morning he said,” I’m still tired” and at 7pm he drew his last breath. Tommy was a great husband, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Karen Tatum.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Loudres, brother Woodie Loudres of Fort Worth, son Lawson Loudres, and his daughters Margaret Lockett, Michelle Loudres and Simone Loudres, a host of legionnaires, veterans, family and friends.
