Tommy Gordon Toliver

Tommy Gordon Toliver, 73, of Weatherford, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010 in a Fort Worth hospital. Tommy was born June 11, 1937 in Haskell, TX to Owen and Mayme Toliver. He graduated from Trent High School in 1955 and attended Cisco Jr. College and later transferred to Sul Ross University. He served in the U.S. Army in Alaska and played on the Yukon Command baseball team. Tommy was employed with Cities Service Oil Company and their subsequent firm for 32 years; he retired in 1999 from the oil and gas industry. He was a member of North Side Baptist Church, the Glory Sunday School Class, the Gideon’s, and the Parker County American Legion, as well as volunteering with the Texas Baptist Men, Salvation Army Disaster Relief and volunteer Christian Builders. Tommy’s life was filled with family, friends, and service to his Heavenly Father. He was, “Papa” to his five grandchildren, he attended their school and church activities, took them to Ranger’s baseball games, and vacations for the entire family. He loved attending sporting events as well as watching them on television and he was a life long domino player. A favorite hobby of his was gardening, he loved homegrown tomatoes, okra, and peas, but in the last few years he was mainly feeding the deer in his garden. He loved reading the morning paper and talking daily with family and friends from his list of over fifty contacts. Parents, brothers, Carroll Toliver and wife Mary, Bobby Toliver, Jim Toliver and Cecil "Pete" Toliver; brothers-in-law, Raymond Rhoade and Bob Dulaney precede him in death. Survivors include his wife, Quilla; daughters, Charolette Ragsdale of Irving, Texas, Whiney Smith and husband Allen of Aledo, Texas and Christy Herbstreit and husband Brian of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren, Sara, Ryan and Emily Smith and Brett and Trey Herbstreit; sisters, Linda Higgins and husband Brown of Missouri City, Texas, Glenna Rhoads of Abilene, Texas and Betty Jo Dulaney of Haskell, Texas; brother, Doug Toliver and wife Carolyn of Canton, Texas; sisters-in-law, Sonja Toliver of Merkel, Texas, Nelda Toliver of Stafford, Texas and Judy Toliver of Breckenridge, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Thursday, August 5, 2010 at North Side Baptist Church, interment will follow in Greenwood Community Cemetery. Family Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to North Side Baptist Church, 910 North Main St. Weatherford, Texas 76086
