Sue Ellen Standlee

Sue Ellen Standlee, 79, passed away on Thursday, May 12th, 2016.  Sue was born April 9th, 1937 in Waco to James and Ada May Simpson. She graduated from Waco High School in 1955, and then went on to attend both Texas Woman’s University and Baylor University to study education. She was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church, leading Bible Study and the music over the years. During her life she held jobs as a restaurateur, in the hotel industry, as a teacher, as a small family farmer and finally as the proprietor of a local health food store. She loved adventure, family, children, gardening and animals, and always had a smile on her face. Throughout her life she was a strong and independent woman, and was positive and generous with everyone she ever met. Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Horace Standlee, who passed away this past February. Sue is survived by her brother Max Simpson, and wife Earlane of Waxahachie; six children including Kim Kelley of Weatherford, Laura Jackson and husband Jack of Superior, MT, Jamie Cook of Arlington, John Kelley and wife Dei of Weatherford, Matthew Wilson and wife Vivian of Los Angeles, CA and Luke Wilson and wife Marisa of San Francisco, CA; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sue requested to be cremated and her ashes will be interred at the family plot in the Bethel Cemetery, on her farm and at Bear Lake in the mountains of Colorado.

The Memorial service is scheduled for 3pm on Thursday, May 26th and will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Weatherford, TX. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Sue’s glorious life.
A donation to either Bethel United Methodist Church or to the World Wildlife Fund in her name is favored in lieu of flowers.
