Obituary for Ronald "Ronny" Hayhurst

Ronald Lee (Ronny) Hayhurst passed from this life on December 20, 2018 at the age of 75 and has now ridden into the sunset to join his childhood cowboy heroes of yesteryear.

Graveside service, at his request, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Memory Gardens of The Valley, 5600 Mineral Wells Highway, Weatherford, Texas.

Ronny was born in Wharton, Texas to Lillian and Harold (June) Hayhurst. He graduated from Wharton High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was active in football and baseball. He was a graduate of Wharton County Junior College, where he was also active in baseball. He then earned degrees in both Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from Sam Houston State College in Huntsville, Texas and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was formerly an instructor at Paris Junior College, Paris, Texas and Weatherford College, Weatherford, Texas.

Ronny was a former business owner in Weatherford, a retired auditor from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and was a private consultant. He was active in many civic organizations and involved in youth sports activities and coached several youth baseball teams. Ronny was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Live Oak Country Club. Ronny learned the love of hunting from his father at an early age and passed that on to his sons and grandsons. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participating in their own hunting and sports activities. He also loved watching baseball, golf and football on television and hunting and playing golf with family and friends.

Ronny was a great admirer of horses and an avid fan of all western movies, especially those starring John Wayne and was an avid fan of Saturday morning serial westerns. He liked nothing more than spending hours watching these with his family. Ronny was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and very proud grandfather. His favorite foods were pie, especially his daughter’s homemade pecan pie, Hutch’s Fried Pies and Woody’s hamburgers. More than anything, he loved teasing his wife constantly. He was a loyal friend to many, especially Tommy Chilcutt and Edd Hull, even while suffering bravely and never complaining through years of serious and painful illnesses. Pops will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and he will remain in our hearts forever.
