Rita Joyce Ogden

June 15, 1942 — January 22, 2022

Rita Joyce Ogden received her heavenly wings on January 22, 2021. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and friends.

Rita was born June 15, 1942, at 1:35 p.m. in Wetumka, Oklahoma. She was born to Reverend M.A. and Nadine McCasland who served faithfully in ministry throughout Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Being the oldest of five children, her authoritative nature developed at a young age (we are not calling it bossy). After graduating high school, she attended Airline School in Washington D.C. She later returned to Okemah, Oklahoma where she met the lead singer of a Rock N Roll band. Baptist Minister’s daughter meets Rock N Roll Rebel - probably not a popular decision at the time. However, in typical Rita fashion, she married that man, and they celebrated 52 years of marriage.

After years of following her husband in the oilfield industry, they returned to Okemah, Oklahoma where they established the Double O Ranch. On their 1200 acres they raised Angus cattle, harvested hay and provided numerous campfire cookouts for their children and grandchildren.

Sixteen years later, they made the decision to sell their ranch and retire in Weatherford, Texas. In 2013 Rita joined First Baptist Church Weatherford where she served faithfully in the Women’s Ministry, as a Sunday school teacher, a Vacation Bible School volunteer and anything else that was asked of her. In her spare time she enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, organizing events and volunteering at local care facilities.

Rita would say that her greatest role was being Nana!!!!!! Supporting her grandchildren in theater, football, baseball, basketball, cheerleading and even team roping. Her famous Country Breakfast was a favorite requested meal by all. She enjoyed traveling and some of her favorite memories were Cruising with Carol. She took great pride in decorating her home and at Christmas time her seven Christmas trees were legendary to her family and friends. Everyone who knows her, knows her love for all things blingy!!! From her sparkly nails, perfectly styled lashes, and her rhinestone encrusted tennis shoes, we are certain that her heavenly wings must be bedazzled. We love you Nana and you will be missed so very much.
