Otis Granville Hott

December 7, 1928 — August 4, 2009

Otis Granville Hott passed away peacefully to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday August 4, 2009. Granville was born December 7, 1928, in Cooke County, Texas, the second of eight children of Otis William and Dora Jane Hott.
Granville re-located from Gainesville, Texas to Weatherford in 1958 to join his brother Leroy as a partner in The Hub Clothiers. Granville became sole owner in 1968 after a fire destroyed the business in December of 1967. Through the years as a retail merchant, Granville helped many young families establish credit by offering quality merchandise and outstanding service with no interest. A humble man, rooted in the principles instilled by parents that loved their God, Granville was always quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. The advice and counsel that he gave was given in a loving manner. His generosity and compassion spread throughout his life as he gave many young people opportunities to begin their work careers in his business.
Granville was an active member of the Knights of Pythians, holding all offices in that organization during his time of membership. The organization held a special place in his heart because of the wonderful opportunities the Pythian Home gave to children in need. His mother worked as girl’s matron at the Home for years, serving until her death.
He was also an active member of Couts Methodist Church and the New Vision Sunday School Class. He enjoyed the Thursday evening Frijoles and 42 group, participating on a regular basis.
Granville was preceded in death by his parents, Otis William (Dutch) and Dora Jane Hott, Doris Hott, his wife of 35 years and mother of his two children.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Hott, daughter Penny Warren and husband Ronnie, son Butch Hott and wife Cindy, stepdaughter, Kathy Barakus and husband Gus, stepson Mike Fortenberry and wife Nancy, Grandchildren Jennifer Rand and husband Raymond, Julie Warren, and Beje Hott; step-grandchildren Mikel Beth Hughey, Amanda Lewis, Chris Barakus and Courtney Wright; great grandchildren, John Rand and Xavier (Bud) Hott. He is also survived by his brothers Leroy and Carl Hott, and his sisters Esta Ashcraft, Elsie Wilson, Janie Humphries, Janice Taylor and Bobbye Jo Woody
Services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Couts Methodist Church. Visitation will be in the Chapel of Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday August 5, 2009.
Memorials can be made to Couts Methodist Church or to the Texas Pythian Home.
