Myrtis Barham Melton, 99, of Fort Worth, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, in a Fort Worth health care center. Myrtis was born July 22, 1910 in Parker County, Texas, to George William “G.W.” Barham and Annie Ellentine Wright. A former school teacher, Mrs. Melton earned her Teachers Degree at North Texas State Teachers College in Denton. She was a long time resident of Weatherford and a member of South Main Church of Christ.
Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by husband, Vernon L. Melton; sister, Myrtle Barham Johnson; nieces, Wilda Johnson McMichael and Dorthy Williams; and nephews, James and Joe Garrison and Edward Melton.
Survivors include nephew, Larry Johnson and wife, Hallie of Arlington; nieces, Rama Brown and husband, John of Weatherford, Margaret Walker and husband, Kenneth of Fort Worth, Jan Lavin of Ruidoso, New Mexico, and Margie Melton of Richardson, Texas.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Visitation is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
