Miles Mauney

April 7, 1941 — January 22, 2022

Miles Elvin Mauney, beloved father, brother, and uncle, died January 22, 2022, in Dallas, Texas, from complications following a stroke.

Miles was born April 7, 1941, in Harlingen, Texas, to Dorman and Lorene Mauney. In 1948, the Mauney family relocated to Poolville, Texas and purchased a farm. Miles grew up picking cotton by hand and credits the hardships of farm life for his deep bond with his six siblings.

Miles graduated from Weatherford High School in 1959. He attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. Miles enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years. As a young man, he worked for Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth while attending nursing school through John Peter Smith Hospital. Miles was proud of his career as a registered nurse, defying convention in a female-dominated field. He served as an R.N. for 35 years and worked in a multitude of environments from operating rooms to nursing homes.

Miles enjoyed cooking, fishing, watching college football, and playing “42” with his family. More than anything, Miles loved and was proud of his daughters, and his number-one joy in life was being a father.

Miles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, J.E. and Wayne, and sister, Sue. He is survived by his daughters: Deborah Brannon (Holmes); Rebeca Reneau (Russell); Tai French (Craig); and Angela Triplett (Andrew), as well as 11 grandchildren: Boone Brannon; Ireland and Liam Reneau; and Amelia, Adelaide, Emmaline, Maribel, Rosalie, Gilbert, Anastasia, and Lucia French. He is also survived by his brothers: Mike Mauney (Linda) and W.F. Mauney (Sheila); his sister, Reba Schumacher (Jim); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Miles’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm St, Weatherford, TX 76086.

Miles was deeply sympathetic to the historical and cultural mistreatment of the American Indian. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, remembrances of Miles may be made to the American Indian Nurse Scholarship Program through www.nscda.org.
