Mertie Jo Morgan

October 5, 1925 — September 25, 2014

Mertie Jo Morgan passed from this life on September 25, 2014.  She was the youngest child of George and Almertie Josie Lowe and was born to them on October 5, 1925 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Preceding her in death, in 2012, was her beloved husband of sixty-nine years, Glenn Morgan.  Never working outside the home, Mertie loved to cook, sew, decorate and garden. Her decorating phases included wallpaper, gold leaf and lots of paint. Her family often joked that if you stood still too long, Mertie would paint you. Glenn and Mertie’s retirement years were spent at Camp Creek Lake in central Texas. There, they took in countless stray cats and dogs.  A favorite dog was Burden, who cost them a small fortune in vet bills, hence the name. Every morning, the ducks and deer, squirrels and birds awaited their breakfast of corn and seeds and knew they had a friend in Mertie. Through the years, Mertie was active in the Franklin United  Methodist Church and in the Camp Creek Sewing Club. She had many friends who appreciated her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.  She was the best Nanny to her grandchildren, Michelle and Blaine, and they will always hold summer time lake memories in their hearts. Left to cherish Mertie’s memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sharon Morgan of Weatherford, granddaughter, Michelle Hackleman and husband, Paul, of Texarkana, grandson, Blaine Morgan and wife, Melissa of Arlington. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Kamille and Sophie Morgan and Luke, Owen and Cole Hackleman.  Many other family members, friends and caregivers will miss Mertie.
The family offers special thanks to the staff of Hilltop Park Rehabilitation and Care Facility and Alpha Omega Hospice.

Visitation hours are 1:00 to 3:00 today at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel .

Services will be at 2:00 on Monday, September 29th at the Newberry Cemetery, located off the Mineral Wells Highway to the south.
Donations  to honor Mertie’s  memory may be made to the charity of choice.
