Marjorie Sawyer Keis passed away peacefully Sunday, March 21, 2010, in Weatherford. Marjorie was born November 30th, 1921, and although she called Parker County home for over 50 years, in truth, she lived in the. world. From the Great Wall of China to the Kremlin to Machu Picchu and the Arctic Circle, she visited six of the seven continents and visited so many countries one could not keep count. She documented her many trips both in film and through journals, some of which found their way into national travel publications.
Granny Keis was the conductor and tour guide for family and friends. And, she did not hesitate to travel on her own when, for example, she decided on a moment's notice to get on a plane to London, then a train to Northern Scotland and finally a ferry to the Isle of Skye.
Her professional career was spent primarily as a school nurse for Parker County schools. She received her RN from the University of Texas at Galveston before World War II, and ultimately received a BS from TCU in 1963. While her husband served in the Seabees in North Africa during World War II, she worked in hospitals near his home port in Rhode Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Keis and great-grandson, Michael
Brent Hunter.
Survivors: sons, Tom Keis and Ricky Brent Keis; grandchildren, Cynthia Hunter, Chris,
John and Vincent Keis; as well as great-granddaughters, Morgan, Ashley, Kylie and
Kennedy; and many, many friends and traveling companions.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
