Leanna Mavis Morse Lengefeld Bryson

December 2, 1924 — May 5, 2016

LEANNA MAVIS MORSE LENGEFELD BRYSON, also known affectionately as “Granny B” by her former students, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and community members. She was born December 2, 1924, in Coryell County, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the age of 91 from complications with Alzheimer’s. She was the daughter of Charles Angus Morse and Winifred Ruth Jackson Morse. She graduated from Gatesville High School, earned her Bachelor’s degree in teaching at Mary Hardin Baylor, and completed her Master’s program at Tarleton State University. Granny B married Henry Carl Lengefeld after he returned from serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. She and Henry had two children, Henry (“Rusty”) and Tommy. She later married Neal Bryson which brought her to Brock, a community she loved dearly. Leanna’s students christened her Granny B while she taught mathematics at Brock High School. Her students loved her, and she enjoyed fundraising to go on senior trips with them. Granny B would cheer them on at basketball games with her grandbaby. After retiring from teaching, Granny B pursued a very successful real estate investment business. She often laughed that she had been leveraging and didn’t know what it meant. In other words, she was a woman before her time, flipping houses before it was hip. Her other adventures included her love of travel in which she roamed Europe and even toured the Grand Canyon by mule, earning her “Mule Skinner” certificate. Other activities included building rockets at NASA and even becoming proficient at belly dancing. When the county needed a name for her street, a neighbor suggested “Granny B Road”, and it was accepted. Friends and neighbors all over Brock will miss her love of gardening and sharing her plants and produce with everyone that wanted some. She was also a proud Texan. Granny B was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry, second husband Neal, brothers Randolph Morse and Hubert Morse, sisters Estelle Hart, Mildred Odom, and Pauline Srubar. Granny B is survived by her sons, Henry Carl and Tommy Wayne Lengefeld, as well as her grandchildren, Beth Healy, Lauren Medlin, Rachel Lengefeld, and Kara Lengefeld. She also had three great-grandchildren, Leah Medlin, Luke Medlin, and Chloe Healy.
