Joree D Laney

March 1, 1916 — April 29, 2016

Joree D. Laney, 100, went to be with her lord on Friday, April 29, 2016 after a lengthy stay at Holland Lake Rehab. Joree was born on March 1, 1916 to Josephus “Joe” and Grace (Dunn) Dunnam. Having very little money at graduation, she was financially assisted by their pastor to attend Nursing School at St. Joseph’s hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. She had an allowance of five dollars per month. She “made do” with her other class mates and graduated top of her class. She served in several hospitals and finally retired in 1976 after twenty years at the Azle Clinic and Hospital. At home she was a devoted mom and “Grandmere”, attending to her children’s needs and schedules. All holidays spent at her house were joyous and fun. Her excitement carried over to everyone and made every occasion memorable. But her ultimate joy was her garden and flowerbeds which she attended with meticulous care. Every evening you could find her on her patio, watching the birds and “soaking up God’s bountiful blessings”. She was an active member of Center Point Baptist Church for many years until her health prevented her from attending. She was an avid bible reader and believer and had many discussions with her daughter. Joree was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister, and her loving husband, Hubert Carr Lane. Survivors: Daughter: Barbara Jo Shepard, Son: Travis Alan Laney and wife Glenda. Four Grandchildren: Susan Joree Armstrong, Caron Beck and Husband Alex, Christopher Laney and wife Kelly, Bruce Laney and wife Jennifer. Nine great grandchildren: Justin Petrea, Kelsey Armstrong, Braiden Beck and wife Betel, Brody Beck, Campbell Laney, Emmory (Katie) Laney, Truitt Laney, Paris (PJ) Laney, and Porter Laney.
