Johnny Ray Surginer

Johnny Ray Surginer, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away early Monday morning, December 9, 2019, in Fort Worth in a hospital.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 P.M., Thursday, December 12, at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2 P.M., Friday, December 13 at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.

Johnny was born on April 13, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas, to John and Gladys Louise Surginer. He married Addie Lee Alford on October 15, 1960 and together had four children. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a friend to many. Johnny proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era where he was an expert marksman. As a devoted Christian, Johnny had a personal relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ and served as a Deacon at the Hilltop Baptist Church in Weatherford. Johnny retired from Weatherford College and was honored to have been selected Employee of the Year in 1998. He was loved by staff and students from whom he interacted with. He also enjoyed collecting vintage car models and attending classic car shows. Most of all, Johnny will be remembered for his commitment and passion to his Lord and to his family.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Addie; his sons, Carroll Surginer and wife Cassie, Bobby Surginer and wife Dee, and James Surginer and wife Brooke; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; by his siblings, sister Carolyn Huddleston; his sisters-in-law, Mona Surginer and Carlotta; and by his brother-in-law, Wayne Alford and his wife, Sissy.

Services will be officiated by Brother Howard James of Hilltop Baptist Church and also by Joey Willis, Pastor of New River Church.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Marie Surginer; and by his brother, Carroll “Pete” Surginer.
