Johnny Odell Hurt Sr.

Johnny Odell Hurt, Sr., affectionately known as “The Boss”, passed away peacefully at age 64, Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital. Johnny was born March 9, 1958, in Weatherford, TX.

Johnny was very active and loved his daily workouts at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA while listening to his favorite funk music at the gym. He will be remembered as "Mr. Weatherford" by the athletics department in mid 70s, and vocals and tambourine player of The Sensations band. Johnny found his joy in spending time with his children and wonderful grandchildren. He adored his family and friends and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Though not religious, the foundation of his Christian faith began as a child at Prince Memorial CME in Weatherford, and in his older adult years, he enjoyed occasional visits at Koinonia Christian Church with his children.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Charles “CH” Fulbright; mother, Lela Mae Fulbright; brother, Thomas “TB” Barnes; brother, Larry Glenn Simmons; and mother of two of his sons, Jacqueline Sneed.

Johnny is survived by his children, Galen Knotts of Weatherford, TX; Quincy Cross of Dallas, TX; Amboyde'ne Knotts of Eugene, OR; Charletra Sharp (Aaron) of Arlington, TX; Johnny Hurt, Jr. of Arlington, TX; Joshua Hurt of Los Angeles, CA; GeKai Halton of Atlanta, GA; GeKhara Hurt of DeSoto, TX; brother, Curtiss Wright (Sheila) of Haltom City, TX; sister, Jeanette Dimery (Clark, Sr.) of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Colby, Braxtyn, Alijah, Brionna, Kalionna, Arionna, Jackson, and Giselle; loved ones like children; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his special friend, Sharon Brown, and the mothers of six of his children, Patsy Cole (Lonnie), and Genee Wesson (Juan).
