Johnny Lee Goodrum

February 7, 1951 — March 25, 2022

Johnny Lee Goodrum went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 25, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.

Johnny was born February 7, 1951 to Lola Goodrum in Henderson, Texas and was lovingly raised by Jack and Lola Dolloff.

Johnny contracted polio as a baby and subsequently walked on crutches his entire life. Crutches did not stop Johnny from living a full life, and those who knew him would tell you he was larger than life.

Johnny developed a love for singing at a young age while singing in church. In school he sang in the choir and won numerous awards for singing competitions including making All State Choir three years in a row. Johnny graduated from Clovis High School in New Mexico and studied at Angelo State University. Johnny formed a country band in the late 1970s called John Goodrum and the Mad Dog Country Band performing in many venues in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and even performed with the Sister Cities program in Budapest, Hungary. Later in life he had many solo performing jobs from traveling with an RV dealership for RV shows, performing for parties and singing for friends. In the 1980s, Johnny had an office supply business in Weatherford, Texas called Goodrum Supply Company. Later, he was the District Manager of the Brazos River Gas company in Weatherford, Texas and served on many local boards including the Parker County Local Planning Committee, Board of Director for Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, Parker County Hospital District Board of Directors, Weatherford Independent School District Facilities Advisory Committee, Weatherford Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, and City of Weatherford Friends of Animals no-kill shelter.

After moving from Weatherford to Palm Springs, he worked as a licensed real estate agent in California and enjoyed traveling in his RV making friends everywhere he went. Johnny met his wife Karen in 2014 and they married in February of 2016. In 2020 Johnny was elected to the Home Owner’s Association Board of Directors for Sun City Shadow Hills recently serving as Vice President of the HOA. Sun City Shadow Hills is one of the largest housing communities in California consisting of 3,450 homes and is the second largest in the Coachella valley. Johnny was honored to have served his community and neighbors and found his role on the HOA Board a great privilege. At the time of his passing he was up for re-election and was grateful for the support of the community during his campaign. Johnny’s bright smile, fun personality, and kindness brought joy to everyone who knew him. He gave the best hugs and was a friend to everyone he met.

Johnny was preceded in death by his Father and Mother Jack and Lola Dolloff. Johnny is survived by his Wife, Karen, his Daughter Margaret (Meg) Pitts and her husband, Jim, and their children, Preston and James, and extended family, Elvira Ebert, James and Gabriele Fuqua, and their children, Katharina, Lukas, and Patrick, Michael and Analisa Ebert and daughter, Francesca, Madeline Simmons, John Webb and daughter, Aubrey Simmons.

Burial services will be held at Bethel Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 10:30am.
