Jimmy V. Woolly

Jimmy Von Woolly, 82, of Weatherford, Texas entered into the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Jimmy was born December 3, 1937 in Lula, Oklahoma to Joseph Carl and Anne Woolly. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Metcalf Woolly, June 12, 1959. They celebrated more than 60 years of marriage. 

He was preceded in death by his sister Martha Kelly, and his brothers Don and Harold Woolly. Jimmy exemplified a true example of a husband, father and provider.

Jimmy grew up in Altus, Oklahoma and graduated from Altus High School. Voted Best Athlete he played baseball, basketball, and quarterbacked for his high school football team. He served in the National Guard for eight years and was honorably discharged as staff sergeant. He then went on to graduate from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, Jimmy went to work for Texaco USA, Inc. as Assistant Comptroller for Producing Accounting until his retirement 34 years later in 1994.

Marilyn and Jim then lived in the Houston and Kingwood Texas area for 30 years. He retired to Weatherford, Texas where he lived for the remainder of his years. Jimmy served as a Deacon in the Church of Christ for many years and they are faithful members of South Main Church of Christ. Jim was known for his hard work and love of God and family. His servant heart extended over the years supporting his boys by either watching or coaching their ball teams and supporting his daughter watching her dance team perform at halftime. He also found great joy in volunteering at the Center of Hope in Weatherford. He loved his job as “bus boy” while helping out there.

Upon retiring, Jimmy was able to live out his dream of having land, cows, a tractor, and a beloved pick up dog. He loved spending time keeping up the "place." He loved being with friends and family. He was known as Honey, Daddy, Grandpa and Booger (his nickname in high school and college.) His grandkids loved sitting around him while he told his stories of hard times, especially “walking uphill to school in the snow with no shoes and eating biscuits from his lunch sack.” The grandkids will forever hold memories in their hearts of the trips taken with Granny and Grandpa to Colorado. Jim and Marilyn treasured the time in their travel trailer exploring the country with his sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Jerry Kelly fishing or just jamming around the campfire. He loved his time with family and adored his time with his seven grandchildren and great grandchild. He had an incredible knack for conversation and a sweet tooth for his daughter's homemade orange sherbet. He loved playing frisbee with his Maggie girl, their 9 year old blue heeler.

Left to cherish his memory is wife Marilyn Woolly, son Craig Woolly and wife Sandy, his son Dan Woolly and wife Tammi, and daughter Jill and husband Bret Belsher; grandchildren Sydney and Aaron George and Myranda Woolly, Carli, Parker and Ty Woolly, Brantley, Autumn and great grandson Landry Forehand, Lance Forehand and his fiancé Natalie Aylett.

Jimmy has left a legacy of unwavering faith, strong character, and high morals. He was dearly loved and will always be missed. A graveside service will be coordinated for the family by Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Home and officiated by the South Main Church of Christ preacher Michael Lum.
