Jimmie Donald "Don" Dobbs

Jimmie Donald “Don” Dobbs, 75, of Poolville, passed away late Monday, June 4, 2018, in Fort Worth following a brief illness.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10 A.M., on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Northside Baptist Church, 910 N. Main Street, in Weatherford. Visitation with his family will be held from 6 until 8, Wednesday evening, at the Oak Tree Baptist Church 513 W. Seaberry Ave., in Poolville.
Don was born in Weatherford, Texas, on October 7, 1942. He was the first of 7 children born to Jimmie and Mary Dobbs. Don proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On February 6, 1964 Don married Sharon Hardin and together had two children, Jimmie and Denna. He was a lifetime resident of Poolville where he served in the Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years was Fire Chief for many of those years. He also served on the Poolville School Board. Don served as a Baptist Minister at Gibtown and was one of the founding members of Oak Tree Baptist Church in Poolville. Don was a farmer, rancher, and manager of the Willhite Seed Company for 54 years. He enjoyed gardening and was known affectionately as the “Watermelon Man.” He also enjoyed playing golf and fishing. Most of all, Don will be remembered as being devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Don is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 54 years; children, Jimmie (Dana) Dobbs and Denna (Brian) Berry; grandchildren, Courtney (Robert) Horton, Ian (Brandy) Dobbs, Sarah (Micah) Kirk, and Blake Berry; two great-grandchildren, Adaline Irene and Henry Wade; and by his siblings, Nelson Dobbs, Anna (Claude) Jackson, Pam Dobbs, Mack (Darla) Dobbs, Jack Dobbs, and Nelda (Jamie) Bell.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Tommie Shrum.
