Jean Bryan, age 88, passed from this life on Monday, October 12, 2020. Jean was born August 31, 1932 in Victoria, Texas to William and Mildred (Mullenix) Smothers. She graduated from Robstown High school in 1949 and then attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas earning an associate degree in Business. Jean married the love of her life Noel Bryan on August 14, 1953. She was a homemaker, retail clothing owner, manager for the Pat Walker Figure Salon, administrative assistant for Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, and marketing specialist for Weatherford National Bank/First Financial Bank. Jean was a tireless advocate for Texas, Parker County, and Weatherford serving on numerous boards and committees including Board of trustees Weatherford College from 1999-2013 (Emeritus), Freedom House Board, Weatherford International Rotary Executive Board, Parker County Committee on Aging Board, Parker County Red Cross Board, Weatherford Economic Development Board, Parker County 4-H Campaign Advisory Board, Campbell Hospital Women’s Advisory Board, and Millsap District Educational Improvement Committee. In 2001 she earned the State of Texas “Hero for Children” award. She later was awarded “Outstanding Citizen of the Year” by the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce for her countless contributions to the community; helping to create and organize the Parker County Peach Festival, Christmas on the Square, and Christmas in April for the elderly. Jean loved traveling to all the Texas A&M games with her favorite Aggie Noel. She was a skilled tennis player who enjoyed playing often, winning 2 city championships against much younger opponents!

Jean will be remembered as an amazing Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Noel A Bryan, DVM of Weatherford; daughters, Denise Ray & Terry of Weatherford, Deborah Jones of Mineral Wells and Diana Bryan of Weatherford; sister, Martha Ann Mobley & Lee of Georgetown; grandchildren, Nicole Carnley & Stephen, Jennifer Jones & Rob and Rachel Crockett; great grandchild, Jaxon Jones.

The Bryan family would like to acknowledge all the caregivers and staff at Martin Crest Memory Care and Kindred Hospice Care for the love and care they continually gave to our beautiful Jean. We deeply appreciate your compassion towards those with Alzheimer’s.

Visitation: 6-8 pm Thursday, October 15, 2020 in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Funeral Ceremony: 2 pm. Friday, October 16, 2020 at Central Christian Church with interment to follow at East Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Dr. Noel and Jean Bryan Scholarship in the Weatherford College Foundation.
