Janice Ann “Jan” Petty, life long resident of Weatherford, passed away from complications of multiple illnesses @ Medical City Weatherford Hospital on 5-21-20. She was 72. Born to Jack C. Wilson and Allie Young Wilson (later O’Day) in Fort Worth, TX, the family moved back to Weatherford when she was a baby. Jan attended James Bowie Elementary, Weatherford Middle School and Weatherford High School, graduating in 1966. She was married to Howard Lee Petty, her high school sweetheart, in 1967, at Couts Methodist Church chapel on June 16, 1967, and remained with him until his death in 2006. Also in 1967, she was hired by Southwestern Bell Telephone company (Weatherford Office) as a switchboard operator. She remained an employee of SWB & parent company AT&T, working at various locations and in various roles, in the metroplex after the Weatherford office closed. Other locations included: downtown fort worth, Arlington, SW Ft. Worth, and Dallas. She eventually trained as a repair technician and dispatcher. When the company began downsizing in 2003, she took early retirement after 38 years. The couple moved into a house on a local farm on first street in 1971, eventually purchasing the property in 1973. The family remained at that location for almost 50 years on 1st street in Weatherford. The location was a farm when purchased, and they continued the farm for overt 30yrs, until Howard became ill. Husband Howard Petty, received a double-lung transplant in 1993, and was disabled; so after her retirement, the couple took some time to travel. After Howard’s death, Jan took a position at the local hospital (Weatherford Regional Medical Center in 2007), and remained there until 2012, when a severe illness left her disabled. She was a member of Couts Memorial United Methodist Church in Weatherford, and Union Baptist Church, Weatherford/Springtown, TX.

She is survived by: daughter Misti Petty & husband Jeffrey Aurand of Weatherford; son Shannon Petty, his wife Dong Mei Petty & grandson Danny Lee, of El Dorado Hills, CA; Sister Marilyn Huffman of Weatherford, niece Amy Wilson of Fort Worth, two nephews Brad and Brandon Wilson of Weatherford, two brothers in law: Jerry Petty of Humble, Tx, and Ronnie Petty of New London, Tx, numerous cousins, nieces & nephews, great nieces and nephews.
