Janice Irene Rice

February 4, 1927 — October 12, 2017

Janice Coonrod Rice, beloved mother, grandmother and friend to all who met her, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017.
Janice was born on February 4, 1927 to Robert Sidney Coonrod and Alma Johnson Coonrod. She attended school in Fife, Texas and graduated from Lohn High School in 1943. After graduation from Texas Tech University, she began a teaching career that brought her much happiness. She taught school in Ozona, Andrews, Kermit and Odessa. While teaching in Andrews she met and married Lynn Rice. Two children were born to this union: Janalyn in 1952 and Robert Randall in 1955.
After teaching first grade for over thirty years, Janice retired, and eventually, she and Lynn moved to Weatherford to be near their daughter and family. They felt especially blessed to have three fine grandsons.
She was a member of Couts United Methodist Church, and Stewards for Christ Sunday School Class. While in Odessa she volunteered in the Adult Literacy Program, and in Weatherford, in the volunteer program at Campbell Health System and Weatherford Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her mother Alma Coonrod, father Sidney Coonrod, and husband Lynn Rice. Janice is survived by her daughter Janalyn Patterson and her husband Charles; son Randy Rice and his spouse Yasuki; grandsons, Cody Patterson and his wife Melissa, Ross Patterson, and Trent Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Methodist Women, in care of Couts United Methodist Church, or Parker County Commission on Aging.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Monday, October 16 at Annetta Cemetery.
