Janet Lee Wright

December 4, 1946 — December 15, 2019

As “Jesus Love Me” softly played, Janet Lee Wright took her last breath, sweetly and peacefully, on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Janet Lee Wright, 73, was born on December 4, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Curtis Carroll Hackney and Rose Yvonne Hackney.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 49½ years, Rodger Allen Wright.

She is survived by her daughter Carrie Bond and her husband Brian with their children: Taylor, Madison, and Braxton, of Weatherford, Texas; her son Chad and his wife Kim, of Ennis, Texas; her brother Robert Hackney and his wife Judy, of Choctaw, OK; her brother Jerry Hackney and his wife Lynn, of Ardmore, OK; her brother David Hackney and his wife Susan, of Spring, TX; her brother James Tolbert and his wife Tracey, of Richardson, TX, and many special family, church family, and lifelong friends.

At the age of 7, Janet accepted and committed her life to the Lord, and was privileged to have her daddy baptize her. Through the years, Janet faithfully served as a Bible study teacher for children, youth, and women in numerous churches, and enjoyed working with the deaf ministry as a sign language interpreter. She and her husband moved over 30 times and together remodeled more homes that most people do in two lifetimes. Janet loved spending time with family, reading, sewing and gardening. Her warm smile was genuine, reflecting the joy of Jesus. J

anet’s business and legal career spanned over 25 years in various cities throughout Oklahoma, including McAlester, Muskogee and Ardmore. Her career included working as a customer service representative, working in insurance, a teacher at vocational-technical schools, and as an office manager for several companies. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Oklahoma Wesleyan University, was a certified paralegal and belonged to the National Association of Legal Assistants. The highlight of Janet’s career was serving as Judicial Assistant for the Honorable Terrence C. Kern of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. While Janet loved to serve in any capacity she could, her main passions were studying the Bible and sharing about Jesus. She would often sing at church and revivals with Rodger, who served as a Music Director for over a dozen churches in Oklahoma. Upon retiring, Janet began serving as an Area Coordinator with Search for Jesus, the internet evangelism ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelism Association. She was a legacy volunteer, served as the first Ministry Resource Team member and was a chaplain for the BGEA Rapid Response Team. Janet was a faithfully involved member of Greenwood Baptist Church, where her son-in-law is the senior pastor. She was currently serving with the Women’s Ministry Team, alongside her daughter, and with the Outreach Team of Greenwood Baptist Church. Janet passionately believed in sharing God’s love and offering others an invitation to begin a relationship with Jesus.

A celebration service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, at Greenwood Baptist Church, 1504 Greenwood Cutoff Road, Weatherford, Texas 76088. Flowers for the service may be sent to Greenwood Baptist Church.

Donations in her honor may be made to the Women’s Ministry or Outreach Ministry of Greenwood Baptist Church, both of which she faithfully served.
