James William Phillips, A.K.A “Dad, Pops, Captain or J.W.”, 84, of Weatherford passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011. He was born to the late William Phillips and Annisteen Cross on October 31, 1926, in the Parish of Natchitoches, city of Natchitoches, Louisiana. James confessed Christ as his savior at a very early age. Mr. Phillips was an U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII. After receiving a honorable discharge, he began to travel and worked in Big Springs, Midland and Odessa, Texas and then relocated to Weatherford where he remained until his death. He was loved by all who knew him and never met a stranger. He became ill in March of 2010 and battled with his illness while always looking at life with a positive attitude.
Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by his wife and parents.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two brothers, Richard V. Phillips of Lancaster, California and Rev. Wardell Coutee and wife Callie of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Two sisters, Doris Board of Palmdale, California and Shirley Coutee-Watson of Odessa, Texas. A very special and caring friend and brother-in-law, Curtis Johnson Sr. and a very loyal friend, Wanda Porter. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel on Saturday August 6, 2011 at 10:00am with Rev. Wardell Coutee officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Friday.
