James (Jim) Peter Boukalis passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014. Jim was born September 5, 1918 in Waterbury CT. He attended Worcester Political Institute in MA, until he was drafted into the U.S. Army – he served in the 101st Ordinance Company – 26th Yankee Division. Jim then accepted appointment as a Government Employee for the Panama Canal Zone, from where he retired after 36 years in the Panama Canal Company Navy Yard (Balboa Industrial Division), having served as a Foreman Supervisor. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight, past PGK and PFM. He was a member of the Adoration Society of Panama (St. Mary’s), American Legion, Geological Society and the International Association of Machinist. During World War II he was an active member of the Civil Defense of Panama and was involved in Community Affairs, for which he was awarded the Silver Medal by acting Governor Parfitt (The Panama Canal Honorary Service Award). Jim also served as President of the Canal Zone Little League Association and as an Advisor/Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He raised funds to support scholarships through his Gem Hobby and raising tropical fish. After retirement from Government service he moved to Weatherford TX and traveled extensively with his wife and family. He was an active member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Jim lived every moment to the fullest and enjoyed all his favorite activities: fishing, hunting, traveling and working with family. He was known as a good husband, father and grandfather.
He leaves behind his wife Julia Boukalis; son Robert Boukalis and wife Vicki of Lillian AL; daughter Cynthia Humphreys of Weatherford; son Kenneth Boukalis and wife Beverly of Keller; grandchildren Daniel Humphreys and wife Tammie, Jeffrey Humphreys and wife Bekki, and Jon Paul Humphreys; great grandchildren Chance Humphreys, Keelyn Humphreys and Marissa Humphreys.
A visitation will be Monday, May 26, 2014 at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Stephens Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m.
