James "Jay" Dois Flanagin

James Dois (Jay) Flanagin, 65, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at home with his wife Judy at his side. Jay was born January 25, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas, the only child of Paul Flanagin and Octavia (Driggers) Flanagin. He was an amazing husband, father, Papa Jay, and friend. Jay loved to fish and enjoyed every opportunity he had to get on the water. His work career spanned from the Oil & Gas Industry to flooring to building houses and ended as a parts manager for a passenger rail company. He was a graduate of Weatherford High School and attended Weatherford College and UTA Arlington.

Jay was a member and served at Greenwood Baptist Church, Weatherford, Texas. He was ordained as a Deacon on April 22, 1984. Over the last 40 years, Jay led small group Bible studies for Children, College & Career, and Adults, and in the last two years co-taught in the 4th-5th grade small group with Judy. He was especially passionate about cleaning and filling the church baptistry, the Men’s Ministry, and the Special Needs Rodeo. Jay was a Gideon and spent several years distributing Gideon New Testaments to 5th graders on local school campuses. Jay and Judy served together as Mission Service Corp volunteers from 1991-1993. Jay will be deeply missed by his church family.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, and two infant children. Jay is survived by his beloved wife of almost 45 years, Judy Langford Flanagin of Weatherford, Texas; son, Bill Lynch and wife, Michelle; grandsons, Dawson Lynch and Tripp Lynch; his Langford family; his Owens family; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A funeral ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Greenwood Baptist Church, 1504 Greenwood Cut Off Rd, Weatherford, Texas 76088. The service will be officiated by Pastor Brian Bond and Timmy Yeary. The pallbearers will be Thomas Larkin, Scott Jackson, Gary Cooper, Ernie Waugh, Cary Anderson, and Gary Yeary, with honorary pallbearers, Larry Bunn and Scott Jeter.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, November 28, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
