Jacqueline Kay Baker

October 3, 1949 — July 9, 2021

Jacqueline Kay Madden Baker, age 71, passed from this life to eternal life on Friday, July 9, 2021 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Jacque was born October 3, 1949, in Killeen, Texas to Jack and Darseyphene “Dot” Madden. Jacque grew up in Killeen, spent some of her childhood in Germany, and attended The University of Texas at Austin, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. In 1984 Jacque met her husband, Vaughn Baker, at church in Round Rock. They married two years later on June 29, 1985 and went on to have one daughter, Amanda.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother and pastor’s wife, Jacque was deeply passionate about special education. She was a teacher and dyslexia therapist with Weatherford ISD for 25 years, and taught for a total of 42 years over her career. She also loved spending time with her beloved dogs, traveling, gardening, and cheering on the Texas Longhorns. She was a member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church and active in the Walk To Emmaus. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which radiated to all she encountered. Jacque never backed down from a challenge and was tenacious in her battle with cancer the past few years, in addition to overcoming breast cancer in 2008 (while still teaching full time, and earned “Teacher of The Year” no less).

Jacque was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Dot Madden, and her older brother Donny Madden.

Jacque is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Vaughn Baker of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Amanda Baker of Washington, DC; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Helene Madden of Scottsdale, Arizona; cousins, Van and Tracey Beckwith of Houston, Texas; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins in addition to countless friends and students. She also leaves behind her precious dog, Poppy and granddog, Desi.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Aledo United Methodist Church July 24, 2021 at 10am with reception to follow.
