The Honorable Judge Ben Akers passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 in Weatherford.  Born Charles Benjamin Akers January 31, 1957 to Doug and Shirley Akers in Leon Iowa; “Ben” was the second of four children.  Law school and avoiding the snow of Iowa brought Ben to the University of Houston.  Ben loved cars and car shows, especially Porsche.  He was a master gardener and outdoorsman.  He loved the music of the Eagles and was a “wonderful human being.”  Ben was a prosecutor in Nueces and Parker County as well as a private practice lawyer for several years.  He spent ten years as County Court at Law #2 Judge; he always felt honored to serve the public and community.  He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Willow Park, the Optimist Club in Springtown, as well as the Texas Bar Association.  Ben was also a licensed CPA and was very well known for his dry wit and intelligence.  He was a resident of Weatherford for over 30 years.
Ben leaves behind his children Maggie Akers and Mark Akers; mother Shirley Akers; sisters Debbra Dunn and husband Randy, Sandy Higdon and husband Dave; brother Dan Akers and wife Veronica; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father Doug Akers.
