Herman Woodard

December 15, 1920 — December 2, 2009

Herman Woodard, age 88, passed away at his home December 2, 2009. He was born to Jack and Ida Woodard in Tolar, Texas, December 15, 1920.
At the age of 17, he interrupted his education to join the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) after which he returned to school, graduating from Poolville High School. He then joined the Navy and served at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Base for three years. While in Corpus he married his high school sweetheart, Dannie Anderson and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Herman and Dannie moved to Weatherford in 1946 where he owned and operated an auto body repair shop for 27 years. He was a member of the Parker County Sheriff's Posse for 46 years, serving as captain in 1990. He was a Shriner and member of Moslah Temple of Ft. Worth.
After retirement, he continued to enjoy horse related activities and shared this interest with everyone. He participated in trail rides, worked with 4-H and provided many happy memories for his children and grandchildren. His love for horses sparked the idea of placing a bronze statue commemorating Parker County's growing interest in cutting horse activities. He was pleased to have led the efforts to place the statue at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kent, and three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife, Dannie, and four daughters, Sherri Coffey, Sue Gray and husband Johnny, Nita Parsons and husband Rickey, Katrina Ford and husband Paul; eight grandchildren, Chad Coffey, Megan Wazan, Jeff Gray, Kerry Gray, Allison Gray, Rann Parsons, Reid Parsons, and Rhett Parsons; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Donna Rider of Houston, two brothers, Jess Woodard of Wichita Falls, and Cecil Woodard of Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: 2:00 PM, Friday December 4, 2009 in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Gibtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
