Henry Martin Maddux

Henry Martin Maddux passed from this earthly life on May 9, 2022, at the age of 96.

He was born July 15, 1925, in the Newberry Community in western Parker County to Obie Eugene and Emma Etta Freeman Maddux. He grew up in the Millsap area.

Henry worked at Milburn Hardware in Weatherford for five years, and Huey & Philp Company in Fort Worth for four years. While working for Milburn Hardware, he married Melba Bernice Lewelling on February 22, 1946. They were married for over 73 years until she passed from this life in 2019.

Henry was employed by The First National Bank of Weatherford for 39 years, retiring as Senior Vice President in 1991.

He was a member of the South Main Church of Christ. After serving as Deacon and Church Treasurer for 15 years, he was ordained as an Elder, where he served for 25 years.

For many years, he was on the Advisory Board of the Fort Worth Christian College.

Henry had been a member of the Weatherford Optimist Club since 1959. He served the Club as Secretary-Treasurer in 1959-1960, vice President in 1960-1961, President 1961-1962 and several three-year terms as Director. The Club dedicated the 1984 Installation Banquet to him in honor and appreciation for over 40 years of exemplary leadership in improving the lives of Parker County youth. He was named Optimist of the Year for 1960-1961 and served as Lt. Governor for District 7 in 1962-1963.

Henry had been a member of the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse since 1960 and served as their Captain in 1966. In 2021, he was honored for his 60 years of service to the organization.

He served as President of the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce in 1969, President of the Fort Worth Chapter of the Bank Administration Institute in 1971-1972, District Boy Scout SME Chairman from 1981-1983, Weatherford/Parker County Industrial Plan from 1983-1988, and was a member and Treasurer of the Weatherford/Parker County Economic Development Corporation Board from 1983-1988.

Henry helped organize United Way in Parker County and worked with them for many years.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol Maddux Skiles Greenlee of Weatherford and Vicki Maddux Baum of The Woodlands. Three grandchildren also survive him. Shane Skiles and wife, Kym, of Bedford and Jeffrey Baum and Kaley Baum of The Woodlands. He is survived by his sister, Jean Maddux Moore and her husband Harry Joe of Weatherford. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in the Weatherford, West Texas and Houston areas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bernice, grandson Tracy Lee Skiles, sister Bonnie Maddux Wester and brothers, Obie Maddux and Arvil Maddux.

The family will hold a private graveside service and appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
