George was born June 20, 1932 in Dallas, where he spent most of his early years, graduating from Crozier Tech High School. He then attended Baylor and East Texas universities, receiving his B.S. degree in 1954. Itwas during his time at Baylor that George met and soon married his wife , Melba. While at Baylor, he played trumpet in the marching band, orchestra, and dance band, as well as participating in ROTC, After graduation, George served as a Galveston police officer for 1 year and then was commissioned as second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 20 years. Most of his career was an officer in the military police, servingin Japan, Germany, and several of the United States. After retiring from the USAF as a Captain in 1975, George served 8 years as a 911 operator for the city of Austin. George was always quick with a smile, joke, and hand shake, and even quicker with helping those about him; family, friends, and strangers alike. In later years, he was particularly fond of playing his harmonica, especially calling up family membersand friends on their birthdays to play the birthday song for them on the telephone. Most recently he especially enjoyed "jamming" at a nursing home with fellow harmonica players, son Ron, and grandson Spencer. But more than anything else, Dad cherished being close to and enjoying simple pleasures with his best buddy and companion, his wife of 55 years, Melba. He is missed by all that knew and loved him, but celebrated for his life and where he is now in Glory.
