Geneva was born in Littlefield Bend, TX on June 5, 1925 to John and Opal Youngblood. Four years later in 1929 came the worst economic time in history; The Great Depression. These years made a big impression on her at a young age and helped shape her into the person she became. Her family consisted of 8 siblings. Her father was a farmer and did whatever he could to make a living for the family and taught the children how to survive and succeed in life. She loved to read until a few years ago when her sight made it impossible so she turned to audio books to continue learning. Learning and the desire to do her best sent her from working in the peanut fields to the corporate world. She went to school in Millsap and lived most of her life on her farm in Brock, TX until a few years ago she resided at Autumn Hill Assisted Living in Weatherford.
In January 1979, she became the Treasurer of Parker County and held the office for 16 years. During this time, as a public servant she served with respect and dignity. In 1984 she was elected to serve as President of the County Treasurers Association of Texas. At that time she was the first women to serve in a Legislative year. Treasurers from all over the state looked to her for guidance on the duties of the office. In 1986 she was named as the Outstanding Texas County Treasurer. As Parker County Treasurer she was able to not only take care of the office duties, but earned the county over four million dollars in interest under strict restraints mandated by the law. She loved the time she served and loved the people of Parker County. After her retirement her travels with her husband Jean Carter, her sister and brother in-law in an RV as well as traveling with her brother in an eighteen wheeler took her all around the US.
She served on the Parker County Committee on Aging that was the sponsor of the first apartments for seniors Park View Terrace, she and a few others signed personal notes to secure the place for the seniors of Parker County. She was a member and President of the Business and Professional Women’s Organization, Toastmistress and a lifelong (54 years) member of the Brock Eastern Star. For many years she taught Sunday school at Church and is a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Opal Youngblood, brother’s Glenn and John Douglas Youngblood, son and daughter in-law, Jim and Shelia Bridges, great granddaughter Kristen Wallace, husbands Tom Bridges and Jean Carter.
She is survived by her daughter Joyce Wallace (Albert), 5 grandchildren Michael Wallace of Midland, Jimmy Bridges (Kayla) of Weatherford, Tim Wallace (Janette) of Haslet, Shana Bridges of Keller and Deana Bridges of Fort Worth. Great grandchildren, James Bridges (Christina), Kacy Spangler Jesye Brabson (Aaron), Farah Mavrakis, Noah Ardoyno, Dayln Dabney , Matti Henderson, Ryan Wallace, Brandon Wallace, Logan Wallace, Makynna Wallace and Justin Wallace. Great Great Grandchildren Beckett and Dylan Bridges, Holt and Hayes Henderson, Zaylee Harper, Kayden and Karter Brabson, Corbin Reat, Guhnar Hillman. Her surviving family members are sisters Kathleen Jackson and Mary Phink of Burleson brothers Delmer Youngblood of Euless, Elmer Youngblood of Granbury, and Tommy Youngblood of Teague. She is the oldest of the Youngblood descendants. Geneva had a great memory and could tell you all the family member’s birthdays and the year they were born.
The family wishes to express our appreciation to Autumn Hill Assisted Living where she lived the past 10 years. They became part of her family and took excellent care of her during this time.
