Gayle Symons Grimes, 83, beloved mother and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord, on Tuesday evening, July 21, 2020, in Fort Worth. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at a later date to be announced.

Gayle was born on September 28, 1936, in Egypt, Georgia to Augustus and Frances Symons. Gayle married Bobby Jan Grimes on August 31, 1974. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford and enjoyed working in the church kitchen. Gail enjoyed gardening and doing crossword puzzles. She worked for the Weatherford Democrat Newspaper as a proofreader for many years prior to her retirement. Gayle will affectionately be remembered as the “Wedding Cake Lady of Weatherford.” Most of all, she will be remembered for her devotion to her family.

Gayle is survived by her children, Jill and husband Tom Smith, David Bill Sewell, and Kelly and wife Melissa Sewell, her grandchildren, Jamey, Zachary, Tom, Kristopher, Devin and Nathan; 9 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren, and by her sisters, Brenda Smith and Candy Rogers.

In addition to her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by her husband Bobby on January 1, 2007 and by her sister Diana Hutchinson and by her brother, Harry Symons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at the Weatherford First United Methodist Church.
