Gary Leonard Cashman

Gary Leonard Cashman, of North Richland Hills, TX, passed away on Flag Day, June 14, 2020, at the VA Hospital in Dallas, TX. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Gary was born on July 24, 1955 in Waseca, Minnesota to Lt. Col. William J. Cashman and Myra Mae Sommerstad Cashman. He was the youngest of five children. The family traveled with Lt. Col. Cashman to postings with the United States Air Force, including Minnesota, Nebraska, Panama Canal Zone, and Virginia, finally settling into retirement in Southwest Fort Worth. Gary graduated from Southwest High School in 1975, and soon after joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at RAF Alconbury in the United Kingdom, he met and married Cossetta Ann Novaga and became the father of a daughter, Carrie Ann Cashman in 1980. His Air Force career took him to Travis AFB, CA, Dyess AFB, TX, Osan AB, Korea and Nellis AFB, NV. He left the Air Force in 1987. On returning to the DFW area he worked in security and then law enforcement with several area police forces including the Dallas PD, Blue Mound PD, Aledo PD, Parker County Sheriff’s Department, and retired from the Godley PD. Several years after retiring, Gary moved to North Richland Hills to be near his brother, Bill Jr..

Gary was predeceased by his mother and father, and by his sister, Susie Hello, and brother, William J. Cashman Jr. He is survived by his daughter Carrie Ann Cashman, and granddaughter, Halee Elizabeth Cashman of Weatherford, Texas, and by siblings Mary Catherine Piorkowski of Massachusetts and Richard Cashman and his wife Lisa of Virginia, sister-in-law Lynette Cashman of Keller, TX, brother-in-law Lee Hello of Pflugerville, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
