Gary Don Elders, 69, of Weatherford, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on Monday afternoon, April 2, 2018, at his home in Weatherford.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 6 P.M., Monday, April 9, 2018, at the Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street in Weatherford. Burial will be private at Peaster Cemetery.
Gary was born on October 25, 1948, in Weatherford, Texas to Alfred and Francis Elders. He was baptized and confirmed at Couts United Methodist Church. Gary graduated from Weatherford High School in 1967, from Weatherford Junior College in 1969. He then went on to attend college at the University of Texas in Austin. Gary will be remembered for his genuine kindness and for his love of animals. He was always ‘the life of a party.’ Gary was active in the Weatherford Heritage Society.
Gary is survived by his sister, Sherri Gray and brother-in-law, Darrell Johnson of Weatherford; his nieces, Rene Burkhalter and Jodi Bensmiller and husband Clay Bensmiller; great-nephews, John Thomas Larkin, Quinton Gillum, and Caleb Smith; great-nieces, Kelsey Horton, Taylor Smith, Karley Horton; great-great nephew, Gage Larkin; and great-great niece, Paige Larkin
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Francis Elders and by his niece, Cindy Burkhalter Horton.
