Gailia Delores Garrett Box

May 6, 1944 — November 24, 2021

Gail Box reached the end of her wonderful life on November 24th, 2021 at home surrounded by her family at the age of 77.

Born in Haskell, Texas on May 6th, 1944 Gail was born to Alton and Loretta Garrett. Gail was the oldest of 5 siblings whom she absolutely doted on. She was raised in the Abilene area and spent time helping her mother with her siblings and hanging out with her grandparents Grace and Oran Shue.

Gail attended Abilene High School where she met the love of her life, Gary Box. They were married March 24th, 1961. Her and Gary were at ages 16 and 18. Gail and Gary had two children Jami Box Crow and Clifford Box. They settled in Bedford, Texas and this is where they raised their children. Gail was a stay at home mom, but was also involved in many activities. Jami and Clifford were very active in sports and various activites where Gail was always present. Gail was also one of the founding members of the Bedford Fire Department women’s auxiliary where Gary was a volunteer fireman for 30 years. Gail could be found with the kids at the fire station hanging out with the other wives and children playing cards and just being together as an extended family.

After the kids were older Gail took up a passion of hers! Crafting! She set up and sold her painted handmade crafts all over the state of Texas, sometimes in the fall her and Gary were gone every weekend setting up for a craft show and meeting people from all over. Gail kept this up until after both kids graduated from high school. She did this while also helping Gary to start his own business, Box Mechanical, a commercial plumbing company.

When the first grandchild came along Gail was all hands-on as she became the best Meme around! She loved caring for and showing off Kendra, and shortly after; along came Shelbie, Taylor, Kennedy and Levi. She was always on the go to every dance recital, soccer game, cheer event, tennis matches, livestock shows and football games! She would never miss an opportunity to support her grandchildren in any activity they were a part of!

In 1999, Gail and Gary decided to venture west to Weatherford in Parker County. They acclimated to country life very quickly and loved being on their piece of heaven just west of town. Gail quickly had Gary taking care of horses, mini horses, mini donkeys and chickens….all for the grandkids of course! They also took up one of their favorite pastimes - cruises! Becoming gold and platinum members to two different cruise lines. They loved nothing more than to travel with their friends and with all of their family! There were way too many trips to even count! Making memories with family was the most important!

In 2004 the social butterfly in Gail added a new adventure into her life - the Red Hat Society. Gail started the first chapter of Red Hats in Parker County, the Wild West Women! This sassy group of ladies lunched together, quilted together and had many many outings dressed to the nines in their red hat regalia! They attended state conventions and national conventions as a rambunctious group of ladies who loved to have fun and laugh! Gail was the Queen of the chapter, Gaudy Gabi Gail!

In 2017 Gail was diagnosed with cancer, she fought with everything she had over the past four and half years. From countless visits to Ft Worth and two years of trips every other week to MD Anderson in Houston. What kept her going and a positive outlook through this journey was her family. In 2018 she was thrilled beyond belief; her first great grandchild was born! Abigail Brooklyn Robbins gave her a second wind and she felt so very blessed to see this beautiful ray of sunshine join the family!

Gail was preceded in death by her grandparents Oran and Grace Shue, her father Alton Garrett, and her sister Jerry Woodward.

Gail is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gary Box, daughter Jami Box Crow and her husband Mark, son Clifford Box and his wife Lori. Grandchildren, Kendra Robbins and husband Ben, Shelbie Box, Taylor Box, Kennedy Box, and Levi Sokoloski all of Weatherford and Luke and Brittany Crow of Euless. Great grandchild Abigail Robbins of Weatherford. She is also survived by her mother Loretta Garrett of Saginaw, brother Sonny Garrett and his wife Rene of Pecan Plantation, sister Ramona Brown and her husband Robert of Decatur, sister Rhnea Friend and Glenn Langhoff of Saginaw and a host of nieces and nephews.
