Ettabel (Bel) Hubbard Wise

Ettabel (Bel) Hubbard Wise was born in Lipan. Texas, on May 20, 1933, and passed away on May 29, 2021, in Abilene, Texas. 

She is joining her husband of 64 years, John Pat Wise, who passed away in February 2019. She was also preceded in death by her dad and mother, George Arthur and Iris Hubbard, and her siblings, Anne and her husband Sam King, Dorothy Hubbard Powell, and her brother George Hubbard and his wife Gennyce, as well as her youngest brother Arthur Barto Hubbard. She was also preceded in death by two of her daughters Susan Starkweather and Carolyn Ostroff. and a granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Trail of Abilene, Her Grandchildren-Denise Trail, Deborah LaFrance, Brian Trail, and Merredith Schwarz, 4 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; Her deceased daughter Susan Starkweather’s daughter, Kimberly, her three children: Tori Mooney, Hunter Gardner and Zachary Santos, and two great grand children; Her deceased daughter Carolyn Ostroff’s son, Kevin and his wife Galit and two children: Gabby and Zach of New York and her daughter Bridgit and her husband Daniel and three children: Harmony, Olivia and Diem from Oklahoma. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Donna Davidson of Florida, 2 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the Hubbard clan of whom she was especially fond and they all know how important they were to her—list of names not needed.

Bel Wise was a woman of many accomplishments:
She went back to college after her children were grown and left home. She graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education and became a Special Education Counselor. She held various interesting jobs: she ran an apartment complex while she went to college, she purchased a campground which she ran and sold travel trailers at the same time in Abilene Tx. Upon returning to her hometown, Weatherford, Texas, she designed and had her home built in the Clear Lake addition in 1980.

She served on numerous boards and committees to include Performing Arts of Weatherford, Texas, for at least 20 years. She found backers and opened The Bunk House as a refuge for women and children struggling through tough times for various reasons and helped them get back on their feet. She served on the Parker County Historical Commission and numerous other related councils and committees. She was a Member of Beta Sigma Phi, taught Bridge classes, and led a Bridge Club for weekly tournaments. She reunited with her Weatherford “Class of 1950” and established a recurring social society for meetings and social engagements.
