Elderene Ann Hobbs

September 20, 1946 — July 19, 2018

Elderene Ann Youngblood Hobbs left this earthly home to join her soulmate, Ronnie Hobbs on July 19, 2018. She was born on September 20, 1946 to Eldred and Daurtha Youngblood. They had waited 8 years for a baby and thus is the reason for the name “Elderene”. However she preferred Ann, Annie or her favorite family name, “Nin”. Annie attended a four room school in Garner, Texas through 8th grade before going on to Millsap High School in Millsap, Texas graduating in 1964. She always dreamed of a higher education, but, her two greatest achievements came along in the form of her daughter and her son. She toiled many years, working a full time job plus many part time jobs to support the first two loves of her life. Due to a layoff, she finally got the opportunity to pursue her dream. She graduated from TCU on full scholarship, Magna Cum Laude in 1986. This degree allowed her to pursue a career with Child Protective Services, helping children and promoting their safety from 1992 until 2006, when she retired. However, she was not done yet. Being civic minded and believing so strongly in giving back, she contributed her talents and energy to the community in several capacities. She joined the Millsap Garden Club and the MHS Alumni Association, serving on the board for both organizations. She threw herself into fund raising with these organizations to provide scholarships for graduates. She also became the head election judge in her community for the Democratic Party for several years. After retirement, she could go on the adventures that she so loved with the man that she loved so very much. They road-tripped to many places in many states, but, their very favorite destination was Crystal Beach on the Boliver Peninsula in Texas. They even purchased a travel trailer just for that purpose. Nin’s and Pop’s favorite entertainment included teaching the grandchildren to fish, hunt, gun safety and so many of life’s lessons through the stories they shared. Nin provided memories galore because of the time and energy she invested with all those that she loved – she loved big, loved hard and loved unconditionally. She had a very animated personality as well as a wonderful sense of humor and huge heart. Funny, pushy, intelligent, caring and feisty – she made every moment fun and memorable. Annie is survived by children Julie Nowling (Gene), Deanna Freedlander (Wayne), Lisa Van Natter (John), Margaret Givler (Michael), Clif Neal (Sonja), and Ronnie Wayne Hobbs (Sherrill), eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sister Vicki Ashley (Arlie), numerous nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and friends, and special friends Judy and Ray Ulmer, Penni Beauregard and Mark and Karen Barnes. She is preceded in death by her love Ronnie Hobbs, mother and father Eldred and Daurtha Youngblood and brother Jeff Youngblood. Funeral service: 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
