Edwin Grey Grimes

Edwin Grey Grimes, 89, of Weatherford, passed away Thursday February 6, 2009 in a Fort Worth hospice facility. Edwin was born November 11, 1919 in Avoca, Texas to Amos and Maude Grimes. In 1936, he married Florene Gardner.  Ed served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a successful auto mechanic and owner of an independent garage and a diesel engine repair business, in Midland, where he and Florene lived for 25 years. They moved to Weatherford in 1988 where he was a member of North Side Baptist Church. He was a faithful servant of God in the Southern Baptist Churches, as a lay minister, music director and Bible study teacher. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Florene, in 1992, his parents, a brother and one sister.  Survivors include daughters; Sylvia Norvelle and husband David of Mansfield, Jane Barber and husband Bob of Lubbock, son, Edwin Grimes, Jr. and wife Judy of Dallas, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at North Side Baptist Church; burial will be 2 PM at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, TX. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
