Dovie Louise Fletcher

February 9, 1938 — April 24, 2016

On Sunday, April 24, 2016 Dovie Louise Loftin Fletcher entered into glory. She was born at home on February 9, 1938 to Morris and Eunice Loftin in Tolar, Texas. Dovie grew up appreciating the smaller things in life, engaged in simple farm life, with her little sister, Sandra Loftin Scott of Cleburne.
Dovie married Hubert Preston Fletcher, Jr. on April 9, 1955. They settled at Tin Top and raised their three beautiful daughters who were often reminded that “pretty is as pretty does”: Tina Williams of Weatherford, Becky and Reid Crutsinger of Weatherford and Marsha and Jim Wilson of Waco. She greatly enjoyed 12 grandchildren and was tickled to have one great granddaughter.
Dovie never met a stranger; she passed on the thought that a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet. She smiled easily and was eager to stop and help anyone in need. She loved flowers and had two green thumbs. She was never content to sit idle, but kept her hands busy all the time. She was a master of hand quilting with tiny stitches, her quilting boards suspended from the ceiling in her living room. She loved crocheting potholders and hats for family members, cancer survivors and friends never met through Samaritan’s Purse. She enjoyed knitting house shoes for countless teacher gifts. Dovie was an excellent cook and specialized in desserts; her delicate peanut brittle was enjoyed greatly. She was a member of Windmill Church of Christ and her life testimony was well lived helping and blessing others. Our memories are filled with her laughter and contagious joy.

Family visitation, story-telling and memory swapping will be Friday, April 29 at South Main Church of Christ, Weatherford, Texas from 6-8 p.m. Her life celebration will be Saturday, April 30 at South Main Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Her final resting place will be at the Stroud Creek Cemetery in Tolar, Texas.
