Douglas Berry, 85, of Weatherford, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at home with his family. Douglas was born January 28, 1927, in Texhoma, Oklahoma, to Lee Augustus and Erous Johnson Berry.
Douglas was a barber as a young man. He enjoyed an active lifestyle; camping with his young family and competing in weight lifting competitions. He joined the United State Armed Forces, was assigned to the signal corps and participated in the occupation of Japan in the early days of World War II.
Back in the states and as a civilian he worked for the Bureau of Mines. He was a self taught man, an avid reader, and a quiet soul. He so enjoyed time with family, kids, and grandkids who affectionately named him Pa Bear due to the snoring sounds he made at nap time.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Berry; daughter, Nancy Berry Bohn (Carol) of Weatherford, Texas; sons, Stanley Berry (Duane) of Fort Worth, Steven Berry (Larry) of Allen, Texas, and Mark Berry (Alan) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sisters, Marlene Overstreet of Texhoma, Oklahoma, and Yvonne Elliott of Amarillo, Texas; brothers, Larry Joe Berry of Texhoma, Oklahoma, and George David Berry of Weatherford, Texas; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and one on the way.
Memorials may be made to Integra Care Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow in Memory Gardens.
