Dorothy Ruth Cubstead

Dorothy Ruth Fuston Cubstead passed from this life in Dallas, Texas on February 2,
2010, after a stroke. She was 104 and five months old. She was bom near Red Oak, Texas on August 21, 1905, and m her lifetime lived in six states - Texas, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Virginia. She lived most recently for eight years in Arlington, Virginia prior to moving back to Texas in August 2009. Dorothy graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1923, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton in 1930, and was an elementary school teacher. She met her husband Laney T. (Cubby) Cubstead when they were teachers at the Odd Fellows Orphans Home in Corsicana, Texas. They were married in 1931 and lived in Dallas. A son, Lane, was bom in 1934. In 1940 they moved to Oil City, Pennsylvania, and later to Pittsburgh. They lived in Houston, Texas before resettling in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1945. They lived about 30 years in Colorado Springs, and in Green Mountain Falls where they operated a tourist court. Her husband worked as a mechanical draftsman for the Colorado Interstate Gas Company. After his retirement the couple traveled extensively with trailers throughout the U.S. and Canada. For a few years they wintered in Mesa, Arizona. In 1976 they moved to Roswell, N.M., and in 1979 they settled in Weatherford, Texas. They were married for 64 years before her husband's death in 1995. She also traveled in Mexico and Brazil. Dorothy was baptized as a teenager and was an active member of the Church of Christ throughout her adult lifetime. She was a member of the South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford, and a member of the Arlington Church of Christ in Virginia. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, and bridge player. She liked to watch professional golf tournaments and football games on TV. She is survived by her son. Lane of Dallas, a retired Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State; a granddaughter Mary Catherine Drennan ofWichita Falls; a sister-in-law Joyce Fuston of Colorado Springs; a niece Catherine Lynn Fuston of Colorado Springs; and her daughter-in-law RuthAnn Henry Cubstead. She was preceded in death by her husband, her grandson Lane Mark Cubstead, and her brother Lynn Fuston.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9 at the Galbreaith-
Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm St., Weatherford, Texas.
