Dalton Dwight Stewart

Dalton Dwight Stewart, 62, of Lake Weatherford, Texas passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, February 23rd surrounded by family.
Dalton was born in Pampa, Texas to Dan and Karmon Stewart in May 1955. Dalton spent most of his childhood in Pampa and Wheeler and graduated from Pampa High School in 1972.
During his young adulthood, Dalton became an accomplished dancer and spent summers dancing in Amarillo, Los Angeles and New York City with the New York School of Dance.
Dalton married Teri Miller of White Deer on July 4, 1974. After completing Northwest Texas School of Nursing in Amarillo and receiving his Registered Nursing License in 1976, the couple moved to Pampa, Texas. He began his career in nursing at Highland General Hospital. The couple welcomed son, Ryan in December 1978 and three years later they welcomed daughter, Tosya in June 1982. The family relocated to Amarillo, Texas in 1983 where Dalton and Teri both began their careers in nursing and teaching, respectively. During the time, Dalton completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nursing at West Texas A&M University and working as an RN and later in administration at Northwest Texas Hospital. The family was long time residence of Amarillo and Lake Tanglewood, Texas.
Throughout Dalton’s tenure in Amarillo, he was a pillar in the medical community, working as the CEO at Integrated Health Services. He was a respected member of the Fellowship of American College Healthcare Executives and was recognized on February 15, 2001, as “Dalton D. Stewart Day” for the need of professional Wound Care Management in the West Texas region. He also served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserves.
Dalton and Teri moved to Mansfield, Texas in 2004 where Dalton was the CEO of Kindred Mansfield Hospital and later CEO of Kindred Fort Worth Hospital. Due to Dalton’s health in 2015 they moved to Weatherford, Texas to return to the lake life they loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, and friends.
Dalton was preceded in death by both his parents Dan and Karmon Stewart. He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, son Ryan Stewart of Amarillo and daughter and son-in-law Tosya and Keith Kidd of Weatherford. He is also survived by 5 grandsons, Landon and Grant Stewart of Amarillo and Koulter, Sutton, and Bowen Kidd of Weatherford. Dalton is also survived by his sister Tonja Franklin of Washougal, WA.
Celebration of Life services will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (16250 Old Weatherford Road Aledo, TX) on March 3rd at 1 pm. Monsignor Tublius Xuereb will officiate. Final interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in White Deer, Texas on March 10th at 11 am, Father Marianna will officiate. The family welcomes family and friends to celebrate his life during both of these services.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dalton Stewart Nursing Scholarship fund through Opportunity Plan Inc. in Canyon, Texas (PO Box 1035, Canyon, Texas 79015 or www.opportunityplan.com) Please indicate the intention of the gift to Dalton Stewart. The scholarship will benefit a nursing student at West Texas A&M University. Dalton was a strong believer in education and dedicated his life to the nursing profession. The family hopes to be able to provide opportunity for someone with the same passion and drive in the healthcare field.
