Coy Leon "Sonny" Beauchamp, 86, rode on to greener pastures early Friday, February 3, 2023. Coy was born March 21, 1936, in San Angelo, Texas to Coy William Beauchamp and Mabel Lee (Peterson) Beauchamp. He was strong in the Christian faith and he loved the Lord. Coy was a member of the Masonic Lodge, also The Fort Worth Jaycees.

Coy loved writing the wittiest poetry & telling stories of his amazing & full life. His most enjoyable times were the ones shared with family & friends & of course anything to do with Rodeo. Over the years, he won many hearts & many rodeos. Coy graduated from Northside High School in 1955. During that year he won Texas State High School Championship Calf Roper. After graduation he attended Texas Christian University where he went on to become the TCU Champion Calf Roper & continued over 50 more years of enjoying calf roping & rodeoing. He served his country in the United States Army. Coy was 2nd generation of the families’ excavating company and also worked as an Insurance Agent.

As he pursued the continuation of the family business, some of the early jobs included downtown Fort Worth building construction, basements, early city streets, & Leonard’s subway tunnel. Another historical accomplishment was after the famous flood of Fort Worth’s North side in 1949, the corps of engineers brought in Coy’s family to construct the Marine Creek Dam, a two-year job. The Saginaw grain elevators and grain storage was another two-year job, & many others were to come, including the continuation of all dirt work at Will Rogers Coliseum.

Coy was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Mabel Beauchamp & by his sister, Delores Devenport.

Coy is survived by his son, Brad Beauchamp & wife Dr. Kimberly Beauchamp of San Antonio; daughter, Brandi Hawkins of Fort Worth; son, Levi Beauchamp of Fort Worth; & step son, BJ Dickerson of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephew, Dr. Bill Devenport & great niece, Piper Devenport; and numerous brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to College Park Rehab, Valor Hospice, many, many friends, family, medical & business professionals… It definitely took a village!

We look forward to seeing everyone, and internet live stream will also be available.
