Cloyse Pool

July 4, 1944 — April 2, 2022

Cloyse “Papa” Pool has left the job site and the softball field for the last time. Cloyse was drafted by
the Heavenly Saints on Saturday, April 2, 2022, and joined them on that evening. His beloved Shirley
Pool was by his side as he departed.

Cloyse was born on July 4, 1944, in Fort Worth, TX. He spent his first few years there before moving to
Parker County where he spent the remainder of his life. He attended Aledo schools early on, later
attending Weatherford schools and living in the city of Weatherford.

He was a 7th generation Texan being directly descended from Walter F. Pool, one of the earliest
American settlers to Texas taking up residency in Pecan Point on the Red River in 1811. Texas was still
a Spanish Colony at the time. Additionally, he was a direct descendent of Daniel Boone’s oldest sister,
Sarah. Cloyse’s determined adventurous spirit was always on display to those who had the pleasure of
knowing him, and he came by it honestly.

As he entered adulthood, he and his brother Cecil owned Pool Electric and AC. Cloyse later became a
general contractor constructing many fine residential and commercial structures over the span of his
long career. His last completed project was the R & K restaurant in Hudson Oaks, where he counted
the owner, Richard, and the staff as some of his dearest and most cherished friends. The landscape of
Parker County will be graced for many years to come by the numerous and architecturally significant
custom homes he built for his residential clients. One could rightly assert that he could have been the
inspiration for the song “Hard Workin’ Man” by the bountiful fruits of his labor that dot the
countryside of Parker County. When his hands weren’t busy making a living, he enjoyed trips to the
casino and attending the drag races with his brother Clayton.

His life-long passion for sports never waned. He coached both of his daughters in softball, insisting to
all that they were not “girl softball players”, but rather, “ball players”. Indeed, he expected much of
them and was rewarded with many winning seasons and even a college scholarship for his youngest
daughter, Lisa. His competitive spirit as a coach, on a few occasions resulted in his invitation by the
umpire to exit the dugout, but all feelings were amicably resolved soon thereafter. He was, of course,
in the right on each occasion supported by his well-worn rule book carried in his back pocket.
Cloyse was a treasure to his many ball players, innumerable friends including his daughters’ friends,
neighbors, clients, co-workers, and of course his family. He leaves behind a legacy of goodwill as well
as his beloved Shirley Pool, Rhonda Pool Roberts and Bill, Lisa Pool and Eric Barksdale, Ethan, and Zoe
Massey, two wonderful and exceptional great-grand daughters, Marley, and Lyric Massey, and last, but
never least, his brother Clayton Pool. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. He was
preceded in death by his parents Jake and Lillian Pool and his brother Cecil Pool.
