Carolyne Ruth Gould

August 14, 1946 — February 15, 2012

Carolyne Ruth Gould, 65, of Weatherford, Texas, died in the early hours of Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, from complications of cancer. Mrs. Gould is best remembered as an experienced journalist and eventually editor-in-chief of The Weatherford Democrat from 1995 to 2000. Through the years she built a reputation for her accuracy and integrity. She began her journalistic career with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, covering spot news and features in 1984. Even after retiring she continued to work as a writer for magazines including Parker County Today. Carolyne loved anything dealing with the written word and thrived on defined goals and deadlines. During her lifetime, the multi-talented Mrs. Gould worked for Campbell Memorial Hospital as the Health Information Coordinator and as the bookkeeper for Iron Skillet Restaurant, and at one time managed a restaurant inside the famed Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. Regardless of her occupation she managed to amass a menagerie of friends from all walks of life, both young and old. Mrs. Gould was an advocate for Native American heritage, being 5/8 Cherokee, and a Native American adoptee herself. She was the Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Aboriginal Ministries, and was a member of the Native American Journalists Association. Mrs. Gould was always involved with her community, was a board member of the Weatherford Independent School District Adult Community Education Advisory Committee, member of the Associated Press Managing Editors Association, board member of the Parker County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and member of the Parker County Genealogical Society. She was named to the Texas Media Honor Roll by Texas Association of School Boards, named "Woman of the Year" by the Parker County AARP and again by the Association of Professional Artists, and received an award from Texas Child Protective Services for her work with abused children. Mrs. Gould is survived by her husband, Michael Rondot; daughters, Chantele Penny and her husband Rowdy, of Weatherford, Christina Grimes and her husband John, of Defiance, Ohio; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Gould’s wishes were to be cremated and taken back to the Grand Tetons in Wyoming where she said, "I have never felt so much peace."
